the word for hair (on your head) is always plural - les cheveux. But...if you want to say that someone has a beautiful head of hair, for example, you say "une belle chevelure", belle being the word for beautiful. Body hair or the hair on a dog is a different word "un poil" for one hair or "des poils" for hair (plural).

It's "cheveux" (on your head) and "poils" (over your body)
N.B: "chevaux" is horses.

cheveux (if you make the second 'e' and 'a', you have the word for horses, so don't make that mistake).
