I have been reading up on Brittany, and it truly fascinates me. They have a distinct national identity, their own Celtic language, as well as different culture to the rest of France. So, is Brittany similar in this regard to Wales? How do the French perceive Brittany to be like? All information and answers will be greatly appreciated.

Breton is a separate language - true. But also in France there is Alsation, Basque and then of course every province has its own dialect. In addition, not many people speak breton any more - it is a dying language. I can't say I can see people speaking it for too many years longer. It will surely be recorded for posterity. Languages die out all the time. France is a mixture of many cultures. You could find a rich heritage in every region. Studying up on the Breton culture certainly isn't hurting anyone. I don't think Brittany is as distinct as Wales. Brittany is much more integrated into the country.

It is interesting to reflect on the Celts and the former Celtic empire that existed a long time ago. I'm told that there are many common words between the modern celtic languages in Ireland, Wales, Scotland and Brittany. You should visit Brittany some time - I'm sure you'd get a charge out of it.

You're getting this wrong.

Nobody considers Brittany is anything special except the Bretons, its inhabitants.

ALL French regions have their own culture, which includes a regional language.

People from Brittany don't have a distinct national identity, they're French, Brittany is just one of the few regions in France where the sentiment of regional identity is still relatively strong, like in Corsica or in the Basque country.

So no, it isn't comparable to Wales.

French people as a whole don't have anything against Brittany (though they think the weather is crap), but they don't understand why the Bretons think they're so special, because they aren't.

Personally, I live in Provence, here too we have our own culture and our own language, yet we don't consider Provence to be somehow more unique than the other regions of France.

Paisley and Adams on an identical table - who'd have theory it? decrease back to the question. My house is now interior the Burgundy area of France yet I come initially from Bangor (the genuine one no longer the single in Wales). Have lived in England, Hong Kong and latterly Germany. There are some myths to dispel approximately France: a million. Rudeness. try London! The French are often exquisitely well mannered yet they assume an identical appreciate in opposite. regrettably, many anybody is incapable of standard civility and that is frowned on by applying French society. You gain what you sow in this appreciate. 2. paperwork. that is not worse than uk that is distinctive and in a much off places language (till you're French of direction). Authority figures deserve, and receive, appreciate and could bend over backwards to help as long as you word the superb protocol. The community Maire ought to be addressed as M le Maire or Mme l. a. maire till and till they are saying in any different case. as quickly as you're in with the Maire existence gets without warning lots less complicated. 3. don't be English, be Irish -this makes you greater of a novelty and admits you to the gallic (gaelic, same element) brotherhood. Vous etes Anglais Monsieur? Is an ordinary question. Non, Irlandais is the suited answer (at such lots of ranges). 4. existence's greater helpful. certainly that is not, its distinctive yet a minimum of its distinctive with a greater helpful climate, meals, wine and greater much less costly housing. each and all of the mechanincs of shifting are properly rehearsed someplace else yet i could propose you to think of fairly intently approximately your motives. Then once you're particular in basic terms decide for it. Bon risk.
