My fiance and I are getting married in December and are not sure where to travel in France for honeymoon?

We have already booked and paid for two weeks in France but are not sure about where in France to go. We want to spend a could days in Paris, but want to to one or two places in the country with a good mix of culture, history and beautiful surroundings but arnt sure where to go. We also are not sure how much to budget per day for food??

Why don't you try the Loire valley with its beautiful Renaissance castles?

Or from Paris take the high speed train and go down to Lyon to visit and enjoy the good food, and then down again to Marseille on the Mediterranean sea. That's a... five hours trip from Paris to Marseille. Both cities have food traditions that are worth trying out as well.

Hi and congratulations, hope you'll have a brilliant time on your honeymoon.



I'm French too and I would advise to take the TGV (fast train) from Paris down to Lyon, and then maybe down further south. The trip to Lyon from Paris with TGV takes 2h10 minutes. It can be a bit expensive, but if you book your ticket in advance with SNCF, the railway company, you will pay less than if you got it on the spot. You book your ticket online, they give you a code, and once at the station you go to the counter to pay and they print your ticket (or you can do the same at a machine). It seems daunting but it's easy really, but I think you have to use a visa card.

I bet they also have a special "carte" (card) that, when purchased, entitles you to a good percentage off any rail travel in France for a number of days. There are also prices for people travelling together I think. Check out the SNCF website.

There is a TGV station in Paris's Charles de Gaulle airport, so an option would be to travel down South first straight from the airport, and then come up back up to Paris with stops on the way.



It's definitely worth your while to visit some other part of France than Paris, there are so many beautiful places it's hard to select one.



My own home town of Lyon is beautiful ;) Don't know when in Dec you're getting married, but on the 8th of December (!!!), there is a celebration called "La Fete des Lumieres", to honour the Virgin Mary who saved Lyon from the plague. Nearly everybody lights little candles that we line up on our windowsills or balconies for the night, and the town council illuminates the whole town too, churches, riverbanks, it's a fantastic night for a romantic stroll :) http://jtomei.files.wordpress.com/2007/12/793115-970987.jpg

Paris is great - There is a lot to do - But 2 weeks in France ? - Catch the fast train to Italy or Spain - I spent 3 days in St Tropez with my wife and it was great - The coast you can visit by train, on and off - Never stayed more than 3 days in France - We have visited it about 4 times and taken trips outside Paris - Money wise. without counting hotel, we spent about 100 to 200 Eu per day - depending where we ate and the cost of tours and tickets to functions such as the Eiffel and Louvre - .

I have been to france twice, and never once have i been to paris! i know crazy right! well i have been to a place in bordeaux named perigord..and both times i visited it was simply beautiful. its a town full of culture and history..beautiful churches, buildings, vineyards.. the weather and the views in the country sourroundings is just stunning.

Bordeaux is somewhere i definately recommend as it fits what type of place you are embarking on perfectly.

you can never go wrong with Paris...the city of love!

My husband and i went to France on our honeymoon, and it was incredible!

you can always do a spur of the moment type thing...you know, when you get to france, you decide where you are going.

Ive done that before...believe me, its a lot of fun!

Marseille, it's so pretty. it's a port on the SE coast of france. lots to see, jus google it or something. i think the hotels are expensive though.

Lyon, Toulouse & Lille are also big cities w/ a lot of culture. many cathedrals, museums, etc.
